Posted in Lake Tahoe

We had such an amazing time on our recent trip to Lake Tahoe. The snow was magical and the kids were truly joyous.

The lengthy preparation for going outside was new to them, but they remained relatively patient as we piled on layer after layer of clothing and hats and mittens.

Once outside, enjoying all of the new snow, we were surprised by this…

To say that I was speechless is an understatement.

I’ve never seen anyone do the polar dip in person. Sure, I’ve seen that kind of crazy on the news, but always from the warmth of my own home.

This was spectacular, honestly. Their joy swept through the winter air. Their camaraderie was palpable.

I *almost* wanted to run in after them. Almost.

As I stood there watching them, I realized that this is one of those small moments that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.

How lovely is that?

(I do think that the guy in the top photo in the middle had an unfair advantage, with his, um, extra layer of warmth.)

Just what we need…

Craig emailed me today with the best news I’ve heard in a while…news I really needed.

We’re off to Lake Tahoe for three days later this month.  I’ve been dying to go since I wrote about all that it seems that our kids are missing out on.

We haven’t made the trip to the snow since I was pregnant with Matthew and Katie wasn’t yet three years old.

We’ll play in the snow for a couple of days and we’ll spend a day taking turns visiting the spa.

It’s been too long since we’ve gotten away as a family and I am counting the moments until we leave.

This will be Matthew’s first trip to the snow and I can’t wait to see his face. Katie says she remembers it, but I’m not sure if perhaps she is just remembering the photos of it. Either way, she’s excited.

We so need this.

These photos are from our last trip to the snow…
