Puppies are cute for a reason

We finally brought our double doodle puppy home on Saturday.

I feel like a new mom, here only to give you a status update because that’s all I can find time for.

We’re so happy to introduce you to Allie, our new 8-week-old baby.

She’s incredibly affectionate and so impossibly sweet.

She slept like a champ last night. We put her to bed at 10:00 and she slept until 5:15 with no accidents.

She appears to have no interest in treats. (If you have some suggestions, we welcome them!)

Although she isn’t a fan of her crate yet (more suggestions are welcomed), she’s been a rock star with the potty training. We’ve had just one accident since we brought her home.

When we find our groove, I’ll be back to tell you how life with out new puppy gets easier with each passing day. (Because that’s what everyone keeps telling us!)

If you’d like more information about Double Doodles, Labradoodles or Goldendoodles, I can’t recommend our breeder, Sierra Vista Labradoodles, strongly enough. They continue to impress us with their knowledge, responsiveness, professionalism and kindness. You can see current litters by visiting their puppy page.

Awww!! She is so very cute!

I had better not let my daughter see this on my screen or she will want one.

  2. tracy@sellabitmum sellabitmum.com

Oh my word she's adorable! (Note to self NOT to show post to my children).

  3. Laura anuncommonfamily.com

LOVE!!!! She is sooo cute! Few accidents in the early days are a good sign, IMO. Princess Sprinkles Cookie, my p0r*n dog, had very few accidents and more or less potty trained herself. She's been amazing. So, I think you hit the jackpot. Also? someone else looks like she's in love. :) So happy you finally have her. xo

She is so very, very cute! Best of luck as you get her settled!

AHHH!!! So cute!! So, so cute! As for the crate, make sure the space isn't too big for her and give her something that smells like you to sleep with. But don't let her sleep with you since Alpha dogs don't share their sleeping space. If you're interested at all in books on dog training, we really loved all of the books by The Monks of New Skete, and while we didn't use all of their methods, the books just really helped us understand dogs.

GAH. Comment vomit. SHE'S SO CUTE!

That is just way to cute… :-)

  13. I know you have been sending me pictures since you brought her home but to see this many on my giant computer screen? My ovaries are aching. I need a puppy. NOW.

  14. THAT is a lot of cuteness.

She is beyond adorable! I just want to pick her up and hug her!! Enjoy the puppy days, even the frustrating "why did we get a puppy?! moments" because they pass quickly! One of our dogs is SUPER picky about treats. Just keep trying different brands until you find one she loves!

Welcome to puppyhood! Allie is a perfect name that can roll off the tongue quickly when she gets into puppy shenanigans:) We would feed our dogs inside of their crates so that they could associate the crate with a positive experience. We would also take the door off and place treats for them to find inside during the day while we were home. When we left them alone in the crate during the day, we started off with 1 hour and have gradually increased the time. When we leave Whiskey in his crate, we give him a frozen peanut butter Kong and/or a bully stick. You should see our freezer it is filled with peanut butter Kongs:) If she doesn't care for treats and you are still trying to find one that she likes, the pet store, Pet Food Express in Loehman's Plaza on Fair Oaks Blvd has an awesome variety of quality bulk treats that you can try, as well as quality bully sticks. Let me know if you need anything!

When we got our puppy we always said "Kennel Up" before we placed him in his kennel. We also always said "Potty Outside" before we took him out to do his business. He's six now and he knows what those two phrases mean. If we say Kennel Up, he runs to his crate and goes inside – and if we say Potty Outside he runs to the door. It takes consistency – you have to do it every time – just like Pavlov. Puppies are such a fantastic addition to any family – congrats!!!

Now THAT is about the cutest thing I've seen all day! Our "puppy" is coming up on her 3 year anniversary of being a family member.
