Candy Corn, Glitter, Pinterest, and the Crafting Rule of Three

Before I begin, let me make something super clear.

I am not crafty.

At all.

I own a glue gun, but I’m too scared to use it, as I’m certain I’ll end up in the emergency room with third degree burns and four fingers glued together.

When it comes to crafts, I have one rule…there may be no more than three steps from start to finish.

I’ve done a pretty good job of avoiding crafts until Pinterest came along.

This past weekend, Katie and I tackled not one, but two of the projects that I have pinned to my Autumn Pinterest board.

Here’s the first…

candy corn decorations, Halloween crafts, easy craft projects

And here’s how we did it…

1) Find a glass vase

2) Dump in a bag of candy corn

3) Insert a pillar candle

See? Super easy.

And here’s the other project that we tackled…

halloween craft, glitter pumpkins, crafts and pumpkins

halloween crafts, autumn crafts, pumpkin crafts

And here’s how we did it…

1) Brush mini pumpkins with white glue (we used a bag of fake pumpkins and gourds from Michael’s)

2) Sprinkle fine glitter all over pumpkins

3) Allow to dry on a baking rack

See? Three steps each.

Happy daughter, uninjured mother. Win, win!

  1. Love those, but in my house the glitter would get all over the floor and I would end up eating all the candy corn. Any crafts on there that involve watching from afar while drinking your wine? Oy vey.

I love those pumpkins! Off to grab the pin for my project board!

The awesome thing about the candy corn candle is that you can repeat it for valentines day with conversation hearts or red hots. And easter with jelly beans.

  4. Sherri

Oh my gosh, these are awesome! And I could do it, too!! Love this…

  5. Love the sparkles. My three girls would be all over this!

Simple and easy? I love it! I think I need to spend more time on Pinterest. I love crafts so maybe I could get some ideas!

  7. totally cute, and i love how easy these ideas are! definitely perfect for letting a toddler help, which in my case is a huge plus! (; thanks for sharing!!

    Oooh, I love that idea!

Love these ideas! I've actually been trying to come up with a new centerpiece idea for our kitchen table…I love the candle with the candy corn! And like someone mentioned above, you can easily swap out other seasonal candies to keep it current.

Those pumpkins are SO adorable, and I really want to make them…but I have a deep and abiding fear of glitter. It terrifies me!

  11. Pinning now! You are my kind of crafter. Abbey will ADORE these.__There is already so much glitter ground into my floors that those don't scare me

  12. i pinned that candy corn candle.
I used to love LOVE candy corn…but when my mother in law finds out that you love something, she buys it for you in the truck loads…god bless her heart. So every holiday or for whenever I'd get a bag of candy corn. Now I can't stand the stuff.
I have 3…yes 3 bags of candy corn unopened but I know what to do with them now.
Also, if you make sugar cookies, before you put them in the oven, push a candy corn in the center. They are surprisingly good and look very festive.

I am a crafty person which is why I always get lost in Pinterest.

I absolutely love those pumpkins! I think I need to check out your board and start repinning.

Okay, I hadn't seen the glitter pumpkins before but now I'm head-over-heels in love.

    Seriously, those are amazing.

  15. John daddyrunsalot.com

Um, how the heck do you dump the candy corn? Every time I try that first one, I end up with a sugar headache.

I'm not even allowed to look at a glue-gun.

  16. Nancy C npoj.blogspot.com

Don't fear the glue-gun! My five year old plays with mine all the time (it's the low-heat version). (And I watch him. Don't call CPS).

I love these crafts. Although I would totally eat all that candy corn.

  17. Not crafty, huh?!? Suuuuuure. ;) Love these ideas!

I know what you mean, though. I claim to be not crafty too, because I think the truly crafty people enjoy the process way more than I usually do. I just want the end result!

  18. Elaine misselaineouslife.com

LOVE both of these ideas and "stealing" them soon. K? ;) Pinterest is so awesome.

  19. Ryan thewovenmoments.com

Show me a craft and I'm sold. {BTW, I have a pinterest challenge going on right now, complete with prizes, so check that out if you have any crafting coming up!} Glad to have found your blog!

  27. dollarstorecraftsdotcom

Okay, look at that gorgeous photo and those gorgeous crafts. You aren't NOT a crafter… you just have low craft esteem! :) I am featuring your sparkly pumpkins on Dollar Store Crafts & then I'm gonna pin your crafts. So there! :) I hope you make more.

You can always cover with ModPodge. It'll keep the glitter from shedding. I actually mixed a 50/50 combo of Elmer's glue and water, mixed together and put a very thin coat on top (after the glue & glitter have set for an hour or so.)

  29. Cindy Freeman

LOVE BOTH!!! My kind of crafts. Hey! I can’t get he Autumn Pinterest Board link to work! :\

  30. I don’t even know how I ended up right here, however I thought this post was once great.
I do not know who you’re but definitely you are going to a famous blogger should you are not already.
    Cheers!

I suggest that you should purchase the things you want
to see inside and plan the room according in the taste. It must be clean and uncluttered,
and good daylight. Most paintings include mounting brackets
    and nails.
