All is right with the world…

I often tell Katie that in a family, it’s important that each person is a team player.

I’ve always wanted her to understand that she is a part of a larger whole and that she has a responsibility to the rest of us.

Craig left on Friday to visit a friend in Southern California for a much-deserved boys’ weekend.

To say that the weekend without him was rough is an understatement.

There was a plenty of whining. And plenty of wine.

Yesterday, Katie was truly lost in thought. When I asked her what she was thinking, she replied, “Daddy is on our team. I need him to come home.”

And my heart just melted.

I was more than ready for him to come home, too.

Katie, Matthew, and I were at the airport 30 minutes early today because we truly couldn’t wait to see their Daddy.

And now that he’s home? All is right in our world.

  1. I coudn't agree more! Our family is a TEAM! That video is to die for!! So cute!

Oh man, seeing them RUN to Craig?? My heart melted just a bit. Sigh…it's always better when daddy's home.

  3. Loved the video. We are starting a week without The Agronomist, and we will be very happy when he returns home too.

  4. Kimberly

Oh, she is so sweet! That video is adorable! :)

  5. MamaWantsThis

    Aww, that's so sweet!!

  6. Courtney K.

Oh man. I get this on so many levels. When my husband was gone last year (a total of 8 months), the days our son would ask for him broke my heart…but nothing compared to that moment when they were reunited. :)

So lovely, melts my heart. And also? Insanely envious. Your weekend this weekend? My weekend EVERY weekend. My husband spends about 2 weekend hours with his kids (a bit more if there's a movie involved). Otherwise, we're on our own. He is NOT part of our team. Sigh.

  8. CDG

That's the good stuff, right there.

  9. JDaniel4's Mom

All is right with our team when Daddy gets home too.

  10. Evonne

I love the video! My kids did that when my husband went out of town last year. Melts my heart!

My husband is going out of town this weekend. Are you saying stocking up on wine is a good idea?

  11. tracy@sellabitmum

    So beautiful and true. LOVE!

  12. Krista

    I love it!
PS. I'm going to start using that "we're a team" phrase. I think that'll work in my house. ;-)

  13. John

    Truly heartwarming.

Nothing ever beats the "look up and come running to me with a great big smile" every time I get home – because, you're right, family is a team – and things are never right when a member of the team isn't home.

I love when our words make such an impact on our kiddos that they say them back to us with sincerity and wonder. Those are my favorite moments. I am glad everyone on the "team" is back on the "field".
thank you for sharing that moment with us.

  15. Elaine

So sweet!!! Glad all the team players are back in place. :-)

Is it crazy that this makes me want to go away for the weekend?
Just to have my children run into my arms when I come back?

DANG it. They're too old. I'd have to leave for a month, at least.

    Nevertheless, I loved this, Nichole.
You warmed my heart today for sure.

  17. Kris

OK, you know I am not clicking that video, but I am so happy for you guys.

    Together is always better.

  18. Tonya

Everything is better when the unit is intact. Precious video.

I hope Craig had a great weekend.

  19. You touched my heart. Thank you.

  20. BigMamaCass bigmamacass

That is just way too cute! So good to have caught it on film. You will cherish that always :)

  21. Cathy

Oh how wonderful! We are definitely a team as a family and when one of us is away it just isn't the same. Such a precious video! I sure hope Daddy had a terrific weekend because I doubt he'll be allowed an away "game" any time soon. hehehe

  22. Peggy

Oh my gosh! So precious! Love this video, and yes, you are definitely a team.

  23. That video is simply too cute for words! I totally agree though. Our family is a unit, a team, and if one is gone for one reason or another, we simply don't run as smoothly.

  24. Chrsitina

It's so amazing how kids observe and value the way families work as a unit. Kudos to you both for showing the kids how important family is! :)

  25. My heart = goop

  26. @skywaitress

That was like a scene from a movie. So incredibly sweet. I'm glad your team is whole again.

  27. Missy | Literal Mom

So, so sweet. The apple cart gets pretty upset around here too when one of our team members is gone!
