Speechless

We had such an amazing time on our recent trip to Lake Tahoe. The snow was magical and the kids were truly joyous.

The lengthy preparation for going outside was new to them, but they remained relatively patient as we piled on layer after layer of clothing and hats and mittens.

Once outside, enjoying all of the new snow, we were surprised by this…

To say that I was speechless is an understatement.

I’ve never seen anyone do the polar dip in person. Sure, I’ve seen that kind of crazy on the news, but always from the warmth of my own home.

This was spectacular, honestly. Their joy swept through the winter air. Their camaraderie was palpable.

I *almost* wanted to run in after them. Almost.

As I stood there watching them, I realized that this is one of those small moments that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.

How lovely is that?

(I do think that the guy in the top photo in the middle had an unfair advantage, with his, um, extra layer of warmth.)

The back hair. THE BACK HAIR!

And that is exactly why women should NEVER feel bad about showing a little cellulite.

Yes, I had the urge to get my waxing kit out when I saw that photo. Sorry I could not read your words as I just kept shaking my head over that one. And Amen to Cheryl's comment.

Yes, boys. They couldn't have been more than 23. Ah, youth.

  9. At first I thought maybe you were speaking about the hairy back guy- then I realized no just the crazy dippers themselves. My bad!

A group from my work does a Polar Plunge, into the ATLANTIC, in NEW ENGLAND every March. I've never done it. Even though there are paramedics standing by. No way. I don't step a toe into the Ocean until August, and even then it is pretty chilly.

My brother does the Polar Plunge every year to benefit the Special Olympics in honor of my daughter. His pictures always make me tear up. Your pictures? Not so much. Where's the wax? Or at least a dark shirt for that poor guy?

They have a polar bear plunge here every year for charity. I'm always tempted to join just to have done it once. I can't back out if it's for charity, right?

I want to jump in a freezing ocean for a photo!

That is crazy! So is that back hair – wow.

  23. Okay – I'll admit the back hair is spectacular. But the green bathing suit has its own special charm when the gentleman on the left is exiting the waters.

So joyful. And a little shrunken.

I'm so surprised my husband didn't do this when we were in Tahoe in January. He's not that hairy, though. At least not since the lasers…

OMG! I was thinking of the dude in the sweater the whole time wondering if it was appropriate to comment about him…but then you went there! That is why I love you!

and yes, these crazy moments are most definitely a small moment to cherish!
