We floated

One, two…fourteen…twenty…thirty-seven stars.

We floated there, on our backs, quietly counting them.

Night after night before our wedding, hopping over the low fence in front of our room to float on our backs in the Caribbean Sea.

Craig’s fingers so close to mine, touching, yet not grasping.

Dark, but for a few twinkling lights in the restaurant.

Silent, but for our dreams, spoken there, as we were but buoys in the gentle water.

There is beauty in words spoken in the darkness…words carried by the air between us.

There in the darkness, his words, forever…happiness…promise.

Mine…echoed back, gratitude…love…always.

We floated there, in those calm, lapping waters and listened…to each other, to the water, to our hearts.

His fingers so close to mine, touching, yet not grasping.

Before our children, our world was filled with dreams, with hopes, with plans, with only each other.

We floated.

I love yous.

And, the stars faded before our eyes…

Then rain, so soft, it began as mist. So gentle, so quiet.

Eyes closed, silent smiles, and love.

We floated.

We floated there, in those calm, lapping waters and listened…to each other, to the water, to our hearts.

His fingers so close to mine, touching, yet not grasping.

    That was my favorite part.

That tranquility under the stars, with the love of your life, floating in that setting. Pure romance!

  21. What a peaceful way to fall into this week's prompt! This is beautiful. Floating on the water and rain, so gentle and promising and warm. I love it.

  22. I love that you interpreted the prompt to be about water giving life to love and marriage and dreams. Such a sweet lyrical piece. I wish I could offer some crit back to you, but I can't. This piece made me purr with happiness.

  23. Ericka Clay erickaclay.com

Utterly powerful in the most beautiful way. And it's sad, too. How the stars fade, things change and even though reality is often sweet, sometimes the past seems sweeter. How you've captured that in such a short piece is masterful.

  24. angel singedwingangel.blogspot.com

ahh man .. Young love can be so wonderful then life smacks ya in the gut with a sucker punch sometimes doesn't it. I think you just described marriage and dating so accurately here..

  48. Jaime ainsleylynn.blogspot.com

I remember when Clif and I were on our honeymoon in Jamaica, he loved to float out in the water. I am not much of a water person. His favorite time to do this was during rain. And it rained at least for a few minutes every day. The second day he convinced me to join him and it was amazing. It was just like being surrounded by water and gentle splashes coming from above and below and the side. Awesome! This post totally brought back those memories.
