Ummm . . . he looks like a gorgeous sassy troublemaker.

    He so does.

    So happy for Katie!

Katie and Jax are going to rule your house!

    They so are.

  2. Tim sogeshirts.blogspot.com

Wow Katie must have been so happy. My girlfriend has a cat that looks exactly like Jax. His name is Charlie and he is a super fun trouble making adventurer. If Jax is like Charlie prepare to be entertained.

  3. Mari

Oh my god. I really wish I'd seen this post *before* I'd jumped into the conversation last night. Now I feel a lot like the lady at the baby shower who corners the mom-to-be and tells her tales of labor woe and postpartum misery.

Well, I should tell you that we gave our son two cats for Christmas when he was nine. I love the connection the kids have with them. Katie will be so happy.

P.S. Jax looks like a cat with perfectly healthy sinuses. I sense good things in this little guy's future!

  4. SquashedMom

Jax is one handsome fellow. We are a total cat house here (note, that's two *separate* words). In fact, my sweet kitty is sitting in my lap as I type, only occasionally hitting the caps lock key with her paw. Why does she want me to "shout"?

Enjoy, enjoy, I'm betting Katie is over the moon in love.

  5. Asian Butterfly

i never really like cats. it was hard for me to tame them. so yeah, maybe cats never really liked me then.

  6. Asian Butterfly

but, yours there seem like a nice to be with fellow, i hope your daughter grows well with that kitty. :) Happy advance christmas. :)

  7. Renee 2old2tap.blogspot.com

Aw, Katie and Jax will make a good team.

  8. Cate catelinden.com

Oh, how precious! Katie will love him!

  9. CDG

    lucky Katie!
    Merry Christmas, everyone!

  10. Cheryl @ Mommypants mommypants.com

    I guess he's cute..for a cat. ;)

  11. businesslorelei

Hee! Perfect! Now we can compare psycho-kitty stories.

And how's Craig doing with the allergies?

  12. KLZ taminginsanity.com

That is a good looking cat you've got there.

(PS I considered making a crude joke. Then didn't. Whew!)

  13. ksluiter

LOVE Jax! My cat has been with me for almost 17 years…he is my best friend. Katie will share so many secrets and cuddles with him! What a great gift!

  14. Aww! Jax is a very handsome kitty. I have a special affection for Orange kitties. :) We have a gray one now…named Gandalf.

What a great gift! I hope he & Katie get along magnificently!

  15. bywordofmouth

I am not showing my kids this post – I told them we don't get animals for Christmas!
i have no wish to add to the menagerie at this point. My youngest had a black kitty with green eye's on her list – and FurReal had one that you stroke and it purrs – wrapped and check!
(we have two cats, 120lb dog, a rabbit, turtles, fish, and crayfish … before you write me off a callous!)

Man, first Pioneer Woman and now you.

Soon all the blogs I read will be taken over by cats.

It's gonna get hairbally up in here.

  17. Mad Woman adiaryofamadwoman.com

Funny that your first few comments talked about Jax being a troublemaker. Our Peanut (our orange psycho kitty) is a total whack job. And Maddy calls him "my baby titty." I really only keep him around for that!
But your Jax is a handsome devil. Has he taken down the Christmas ornaments yet?

  18. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

We were prepared for mayhem. We bought a cartload of cat toys, scratchers, and myriad treats for positive reinforcement.

Jax somehow missed the memo that he was supposed to wreak havoc.
To be a sassy troublemaker, he might have to actually get off his lazy cat butt.

    All he does is sleep.

    Good kitty.

  19. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

He is far too lazy to cause any sort of trouble.
I've never met a more unmotivated cat.
    Happy sighs.

  20. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

I couldn't decide if I was more entertained or grossed out by your cat snot tweets last night.
You pushed me over the edge with your description of it being a cross between something on Hoarders and placenta. I could taste my own vomit. ;)

He sneezed once this morning and I totally held my breath, bracing for the worst.

  21. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

I am so happy that you made the distinction between cathouse and cat house. ;)

We're so happy to have Jax as a part of our family. Katie is indeed head over heels in love with him.

  22. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

She thinks the same thing. He just wants her to let him nap already. ;)

  23. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

    Thank you! She so does.

  24. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

Merry Christmas to you and your family as well!

  25. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

    For a cat. ;)

  26. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

Craig's been gettin' friendly with his antihistamines. Poor guy.
So far, this is the most easy going cat we've ever had.

  27. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

Yes, he's pretty cute isn't he.
Now I'm wishing you'd made the joke. Darn.

  28. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

Wow, Katie! You are so blessed to still have your kitty after all these years.
My last kitty, my favorite kitty ever, died shortly after Katie was born. She was 14 and I adored her so. I was crushed when she passed. It has taken me a while to feel ready to welcome another cat into our world.
Jax makes our house feel even more like a home.

  29. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

Thank you! He is the sweetest little thing.
They are going to be best buddies, once she convinces him, that is. ;)

  30. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

I cannot get past the fact that you have a 120lb dog! That's the size of a human!
Yes, I would say that you have your hands full already. :)

  31. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

They make drops for that. I'll send you some. ;)

  32. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

    Thank you!
He doesn't seem all that interested in doing anything other than sleeping under the tree. The ornaments are safe so far.
Okay, baby titty? That is priceless!

  33. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

    Thank you. :)

  34. andygirl

he looks so sweet under the tree! has he destroyed it yet? ;)

so glad you've got a kitty in your lives now. a furbaby really makes things better. and every little girl needs a cat.

  35. Natalie mommyofamonster.com

And how is he fitting in? He is so cute!

I wish we could have a kitty. But Jason is "allergic". Yes, I put that in quotes because I'm not sure if I believe him 100% or if it could be that he's not a fan of cats ;)

  36. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

Thank you, Hope. He's so sweet. :)

  37. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

He hasn't even made a move for an ornament! I keep expecting to come downstairs one morning and find the tree laying across the floor, but so far, so good. :)

Katie loves him already…it was love at first sight.

  38. Cate catelinden.com

Wow, 17 years! That's such a long time! Like you, Nichole, my beloved 14-year-old kitty (and best friend!) died when my daughter was only two months old. It broke my heart. We also had a 1-year-old cat at the time, and brought home another kitten to keep her company (she and the older cat had been great friends). I'm glad we still had a cat when Pittypat died, because I think it may have taken me years to want another!

ANYWAY. Enjoy Jax. He is adorable. :-)

  39. Nichole inthesesmallmoments.com

He's fitting in beautifully. I couldn't have asked for a nicer cat for the kids.
And *sure* Jason is allergic. Wink, wink.

  40. Lyndsey

I am so impressed!!!!! Katie must be in heaven! I'm just picturing it now….lovely!
